In January 2018, several news agencies reported that Metrolinx, the provincially-owned transit agency that operates GO Transit and the Presto fare card system, was the victim of a cyber-attack. According to the news sources, the attack originated from North Korea. Metrolinx detected the threat to a firewall in mid January.1 Fortunately, the cyber-attack did not breach employee or customer data – the system it infected was not related to such information.
